Now we have a page 2! This is for everything not related to the story. Because I felt like it
Okay. Believe it or not, all these names were original at the time of conception, except for one. And unfortunately, all ten, upon investigation, turned out to have been used before. But here is my story behind each one, anyway. Arranged from least to most fun creating, I guess.
Shirion: Random mouthing. I just moved my mouth while dispelling air from my lungs, and came up with the piece of idiocy known as "Shirion".
Trivia: The name of some Army Corps in Israel. I have no idea how it happened. Also a computer manufacturer.
Ralinn: Imitation. We all see a lot of nice names that take a similar form. Note "Raelyn". I just "invented" a name that more or less conformed to name standards in the real world.
Trivia: Chosen because there's someone named Lyn in Fire Emblem who leads a 13-member band of mercenaries for the first arc of the game. It's actually a very popular name already :( Google turned up a lot of Facebook pages.
Lanoré: Imitation. Actually, just grabbed the name Lenora, switched the vowels around, and added the accent to make sure that people pronounce the "e". She was originally supposed to be Lanora. Right down to the last minute. But I suddenly realised that it sounds too ordinary. Accented "e" looks wonderful. So here.Trivia: This spelling with the accent is unique. But of course the origin name (Lenora) is pretty common.
Raydan: Adaptation. Took Ralinn's first letter, first of all. I first wanted to call him Ryden, but then I thought that the reference to the bow might seem to be taking it too far with some people. So I changed it to Rayden, then to Raydan.
Trivia: Spanish surname. Wow.
Clynine: Random mouthing on a base. i.e. I chose the first two letters first, because of her job. Cleric. Then I mouthed out the rest. I left it free of hard consonants so that it would sound girly, but I still don't like it.
Trivia: This is the name that didn't give me any exact results on Google. But CLY9 is apparently a gene in the yeast genome.
Akera: Custom-made to a purpose. In this case, to sound fierce. I made it completely from imagination, arranging the letters in my mind. It unfortunately came out sounding like a TV brand. She was originally supposed to be Ahera, but that sounded too weak for me. So she became Akera.
Trivia: Akera is a genus of sea slugs. It's supposed to be a very primitive form. How...
Turino: Tribute. This is the name that wasn't original. I took it directly off Turina, the surname of my second favourite composer. I had recently read (at the time of conception of the characters) that people often give children names that are surnames. I was feeling lazy, so I tried that, with a variation.
Trivia: =Torino (Turin). At least, the Italians say so. It's a nice big city in Italy, famous for the Shroud. And there's also some movie out there called Gran Torino.
Telida: For her brother. And for me. First I got Turino's name. Then I decided that his sister should start with the same letter. And since my name starts with "Te", I decided to give her the same. Oh, but almost all names starting with "T" are horrible. So she got quite a horrible name.
Trivia: Telida is a town in Alaska. They've got this really cute founding story. Interesting.
Zethis: Rule of cool. Normally, names starting with "Z" are cool. So I decreed that there would be someone with a name starting with "Z" in my story. Then, because names ending with "-is" are usually cool, that got mixed in. He ended up with (possibly) the coolest name in my story.
Trivia: All I know is that it seems to have a link to Warcraft.
Ketara: My taste and adaptation. I actually based it on my second favourite boy's name, Ket. It's also because I think that names starting with K are the best in the world (aside from, maybe, names starting with J). I just couldn't come up with anything that didn't sound girly. I considered Katana once or twice, but, like Ryden, I felt that it might be going too far with the reference.
Trivia: I am proudest of this name. Unfortunately, I had no idea that Avatar had already used a similar name that is pronounced in exactly the same way. There's also Ketara Software. I'm shocked.
I love this question.
1 Ketara (because I based all his responses and his insecurities on mine. And he's happy!)
2 Turino (who doesn't like bad-tempered emo guys with dark pasts and family problems?)
3 Telida (because I based her beliefs and anger triggers on mine)
4 Akera (she acts like me--loses control when angry. And she's such a sad person)
5 Lanoré (she's too cool to have been created by me 8D)
6 Zethis (he'll never be unlikeable. Just not so interesting.)
7 Raydan (well, he's annoying, but still interesting and fun to write about)
8 Clynine (GIRLY >:O)
9 Ralinn (The leaders in my stories are just there for the sake of order-keeping. Otherwise she's nothing much.)
10 Shirion (I could fall asleep from his sheer presence.)
